By rapidly migrating their French production level data via SSIS, CCS can now provide fully-featured bilingual support for the provision of smoking cessation advice.

Whitecap Canada Inc. Helps Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) Migrate French Smokers Helpline Application

Background
The Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) is a private non-profit organization, funded by donations from the public and money raised through its fundraising activities. CCS offers a complex application, Smokescreens, which allows people to call in and select different options to obtain smoking cessation advice.

Challenge
CCS had previously undertaken upgrades and development to add new features and advanced functionality to the English language version of Smokescreens; a French language version was required in order to take advantage of the new features and functionality as compared to the legacy version of the application that was currently in use in Quebec. It was necessary to migrate all production level data into the latest version of Smokescreens and ensure more thorough bilingual support across the application.

Solution
Whitecap performed extensive analysis of the existing database (data and schemas) between the legacy and latest versions of Smokescreen to remap production level data for migration. As a result, an SSIS package was written to perform the migration.

Whitecap also performed translation and modification of the application to achieve bilingual support across three different areas: translation of database-driven text, code-driven pop-up messages and direct screen translations.

Results
As a result, the Quebec Division of the Canadian Cancer Society has been able to successfully roll out the latest version of Smokescreens with full bilingual support and minimal disruption to service.
